Subject (Practical or Theory): SLAR
Class Profile & Details: 3rd year classes of both host teachers
Duration of Lesson: Single (1 hour)
Professional teaching skills and ability
Teachers knew each student based on their work + could recall their behaviour in class
Good communication + openness to question each other while looking at the work from each level of expectations
·
Classroom management
Communication between teachers throughout the SLAR, keeping the conversation going as they looked at each others’ student work, looking for similar results
Constantly questioning each other to make sure both are using the same success criteria
·
Presentation of learning content
Each teachers’ student work (Visual Art Sketchpads) piled up on tables on each side of the room - 4 piles each with each desk for each grade (yet to meet expectations, in line with, above, exceeding expectations)
Effectiveness of planning
SLAR went very smoothly - piles already made = time efficient + organised rather than going through all student work one by one together
piles on desks also made the SLAR more visually organised - teachers could visualise the curve of students grades which helped to confirm that each sketchbook was given the right grade
Assessment and evaluation of pupils work in class
Grades already given to each students’ sketchbooks by their teacher, to be compared with other teacher’s grades
Sheet of CBA expectations + success criteria stuck on cover of each sketchbook + grade awarded is circled by teacher
After questioning + conversation between two teachers, some student’s grades are moved higher / lower to more appropriately fit the class curve
Any additional comments on what you learned from the observation class?
Communication between teachers in the art department is so vital + important to the efficient running of the department, as I have seen so far working with my two host teachers - both work together to maximise the ability of all students to reach their full potential
SLAR format of grading student work resulted in more accurate grades for all students - seeing all student work laid out together helps to figure out who really exceeded expectations / are still yet to meet expectations.
