Subject participation as a factor affecting curriculum development

Curriculum Studies

In my curriculum studies module, I chose to research the disparity between male and female participation in traditionally "gendered" subjects ( eg. Woodwork / Home Ec.), especially in unmixed boys' and girls' schools where these subjects aren't available, and the harmful implications of this lack of choice for students. With reference to the Better Outcomes For Brighter Futures policy 2014 - 2020 and Goal 4 of the UN 2030 Agenda For Sustainable Development, I wanted to show the paradoxical stigma that has resulted from the long term association between certain subjects and male / female students, and how this can negatively affect career choices in the future.
